Chelsea line up Baba Rahman deal to replace Filipe Luis

Chelsea's move for £15million-rated Augsburg left back Baba Rahman can now go ahead after the Barclays Premier League champions agreed that Filipe Luis can return to Atletico Madrid.

Luis, 29, has failed to make an impression since arriving for £15m last summer from the former Spanish champions and is eager to return back to the Vicente Calderon.

Chelsea wanted to get back the full fee they paid for him last summer but the two clubs have now agreed a deal, with sources at Atletico claiming it is for £11m.

That will still allow Jose Mourinho to make his move for 21-year-old Rahman, the Ghana international who the Chelsea manager wants to bring to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have yet to agree a fee with Bundesliga club Augsburg but negotiations should now begin with the player expected to arrive before the Community Shield.

Atletico want Luis to travel to Madrid on Wednesday ahead for a proposed medical.

Mourinho confirmed talks with Atletico at the weekend but added: 'If Atletico Madrid want him back then they have to pay and we have to discuss the offer.

'If he leaves then we have to react and we have to go in the market (and find a replacement).'

Chelsea are looking to strengthen their defence and have bid for Everton's John Stones while chasing Rahman.
